Inflation dips to 5 month low of 5.19 per in July



i. Wholesale inflation dropped to a 5 month low of 5.19 per cent in July this year, due to a fall in vegetable prices compared to the same month last year.

ii. Wholesale Price inflation had stood at 5.43 percent in June this year, and at 5.84 per cent in July last year, according to data released by the government today.

iii. Inflation in the overall food articles basket rose to 8.43 percent in July this year. But vegetables prices as a group actually declined 1.27 percent from last July, although they were up 22.83 percent from June.

iv. Onion prices fell 8.13 per cent, year on year, in July. But potato prices shot up 46.41 per cent, and fruits surged 31.71 per cent in July. Inflation in manufactured products stood at 3.67 percent............ http://onlinepages.in

Supreme Court gets four new Judges

       I.    Senior advocate Uday Umesh Lalit, who hails from Maharashtra joined the Bar in June 1983 is practising in the apex court since 1986. He will have a tenure of about eight years, including about months as the Chief Justice of India in 2022 after the retirement of Justice N.V. Ramana. http://onlinepages.in
      II.    Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre, who hails from Madhya Pradesh became a Judge of Madhya Pradesh High Court in 1999. Initially he was appointed Chief Justice of Manipur and later shifted to Gauhati High Court as its Chief Justice. He will have a tenure of over five years.http://onlinepages.in
    III.    Justice R. Banumathi, who hails from Tamil Nadu was elevated as Judge of the Madras High Court on April 3, 2003 and elevated as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court in November 2013.     IV.    Justice Prafull Chandra Pant, who hails from the then undivided Uttar Pradesh became a Judge of Uttarakhand High Court in 2004. He was appointed Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court from September 2013. He will have a brief tenure of little over three years.http://onlinepages.in

Modi announces Rs. 8,000 crore special assistance for Jammu and Kashmir road projects



i.Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced special Central assistance of Rs. 8,000 crore for construction of four important surface communication projects in Jammu and Kashmir while writing off the State s liability of Rs. 60 crore towards Food Corporation of India.

ii. Addressing a public meeting, attended by about 8,000 people at the Polo Ground in Leh, during his maiden visit to Ladakh region and second to Jammu and Kashmir after taking over as Prime Minister, Mr. Modi said that his Cabinet would soon sanction four major road communication projects for Jammu and Kashmir. India to give grant of $1 million for construction of cricket stadium in Afghanistan



i. India is to give a grant of 1 million US dollars for construction of a cricket stadium in Afghanistan. 
 
ii. The centre has given approval for the grant to construct the stadium in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar. A report says, the stadium is set to come up in Aino Mina, a northern suburb of Kandahar city on land donated to the Afghanistan Cricket Board in 2012.....

World Bank pledges 200 mln to fight Ebola



i. The World Bank has pledged USD 200 million in emergency funding to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to help the West African countries contain spread of deadly Ebola infections and improve public health systems.

ii. World Bank President Dr Jim Yong Kim, who is experienced in treatment of infectious diseases, said the new financing commitment was in response to a call from both the three African countries hardest hit by Ebola and the World Health Organisation for immediate assistance to contain the outbreak.

iii. In a statement, he said the World Bank Group would step up social safety net assistance for affected communities and families and help to build up public health systems in West Africa to strengthen the region s disease control capacity.

iv. With the Ebola virus now directly and indirectly impacting economies in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and neighboring countries, the new WB Group emergency response will also help countries and communities cope with financial hardship caused by the outbreak, a media statement said............ http://onlinepages.in

Dipa Karmakar became first Indian woman gymnast to win medal in Commonwealth Games
